Super Eagles Triumph: Nigeria Crushes Benin 3-0 in AFCON Qualifier

Nigeria kicked off their journey towards the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic on September 7, 2024. The match, held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, saw the Super Eagles dominate throughout, securing their place at the top of Group D.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock. However, just before the halftime whistle, Ademola Lookman put Nigeria ahead with a well-placed shot after dribbling through the Benin defense. The second half saw Nigeria continue their dominance, with Victor Osimhen coming off the bench to score a brilliant volley, doubling the lead. Lookman then sealed the win with his second goal of the night.

This result marks an important step for Nigeria as they seek to qualify for the tournament. The win also allowed the Super Eagles to avenge their previous loss to Benin earlier this year during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they were defeated 2-1(
